THE EVEN BIGGER SHOUT

Right now, a bush mate is battling with booze, isolated and suffering behind closed doors.

Today, your shout can open the door to life-saving support and social inclusion.

The Big Shout national appeal is a play on the great Australian tradition of not hesitating to shout a mate a beer: a playful concept with serious impact. Throughout the month of February, we’re asking people all around Australia to pour their generosity into a virtual round of $25 to $500: $$$ dollars to fund real support for our mates doing it tough with grog.

But The Even Bigger Shout is something different. This page is for those who have the capacity and the heart to create impact on a scale that will truly shift the dial. It’s for leaders in Big Ag, philanthropy, industry and community who want to step up in a bigger way that will strengthen and support rural Australia for generations to come.

If that’s you ... welcome. Your generosity won't just help, it will save and change lives. With donation tiers from $5,000 to $100,000 (and the option to go even further with a custom amount), your generosity will fuel our projects, people and outreach so we can keep showing up where it matters most: in the lives of isolated Australians who truly need support, connection and a fair go.

We know that big change happens when big‑hearted people (with big budgets) stand together. So, if you know others in your network, your family or your industry who share your values – people who care deeply about rural communities and have the means to make a meaningful difference – please invite them to join you here. And please shout loudly about this campaign or your contribution on Social Media or LinkedIn (don't forget to tag us!), or simply in conversation, so that your leadership will inspire others.

If you’re ready to join the legends who have already donated an even bigger shout, choose your virtual shout from the form. Or, scroll down to hear from our founder, Shan – she’ll tell you why this work matters and how your support can save and transform lives in the bush.

A message from our founder & CEO, Shan

This is a page I've curated for major donors: leaders from Big Ag, philanthropy, industry or community who are committed to backing the bush in a meaningful way through The "Even Bigger" Shout.

The Big Shout will run for the entire month of February with the aim of raising $1 million to extend the reach and impact of our bush charity, Sober in the Country. While most supporters will be invited to shout the dollar equivalent of a 6‑pack, a carton, a keg or a pallet… you legends have access to The Even Bigger Shout, with tiers ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. These are massive, life‑changing, life‑saving levels of generosity.

Whether you're a drinker, non-drinker or somewhere in between, we know that you'll come through for rural men and women who (just like me) need a hand … not another beer in their hand.

The Sober in the Country team – and all the remote Australians we help – are deeply grateful for your support.

Your virtual shout will help us to create and sustain programs, resources and supports – like our online Bush Tribe and our Sober Toolbox. This means your virtual shout can have a lasting, vital impact, directly changing and saving rural lives.

We'd love to feature you on our socials and our leaderboard (with your permission, of course! Donations can be made anonymously). If you're keen, please share your logo and/or a few of your favourite snaps of you or your team by emailing us at [email protected]

This way we can shout loudly about your generosity and showcase the best of the best straight out of the gate! We'd absolutely love you to lead by example and inspire others in the ag industry and beyond to get around this cause.

Those of you who know me well will understand how much your support of this appeal means to me. But you would be staggered at what your generosity means to an entire country demographic who desperately need – and are asking for – the life-saving support you can help fund.

Heartfelt love and appreciation,

Shan (and the entire Sober in the Country team, too!)

Why your support is needed now

Why your support is needed now

Why your support is needed now

Right now, tens of thousands of rural and remote Australians are struggling with alcohol harm and addiction in isolation with little to no access to the support they need ... leading to depression, social isolation, farm accidents, suicide, preventable early deaths and other devastating outcomes.

We can't do this life-saving work without you. Every donation, big or small will have a huge impact.
Join The Big Shout – or in your case, The Even Bigger Shout – and together we can "shout" our mates a chance for a better life.

Donate Now

Why this campaign matters:

Hidden struggles

Many of our rural friends, colleagues or family are fighting often invisible battles with alcohol harm or addiction behind closed doors. They're suffering every day – as are their loved ones – and chances are, you wouldn't even know.

Pressure to drink

As you know, our national identity and "bush pride" are often directly linked to grog. While that's all well and good for those who can pull up after a few, our national survey confirmed a staggering 96% of remote Australians who chose to say "no thanks" or "not today" to booze faced severe pressure, bullying and unrelenting familiar lines like "what's wrong with you" or "just one won't hurt you!". And while the intention of this is often camaraderie or jest, it's impact can be devastating.

Devastating impacts

Alcohol harm and addiction are directly linked to all the "big ticket" issues that most severely impact our communities, including farm accidents, depression, bullying, domestic violence, suicide,  preventable early deaths, safety and more.

Scarce support

Country Australians are 150% more likely to experience harm from alcohol, yet only 17% get the help they need. We have to do better. Access to appropriate support is scarce for remote Australians – often literally impossible to access due to geographic isolation, being city-centric, and/or being unaffordable.

Failing future leaders in ag

Many young people entering the ag arena have shared concerns with us over the past decade about toxic or unsafe workplaces and cultures. For example, they've shared that they’ve walked away from promising futures because of bullying around booze to ‘fit in’. Without the #OK2SAYNO (to booze) message and framework of mateship, respect and choice – to ensure that everyone is catered for and included, without qualification – organisations will struggle to attract and retain young future leaders in ag.

And these are just a few of the reasons why your shout is urgently needed.

Right now, tens of thousands of rural and remote Australians are struggling with alcohol harm and addiction in isolation with little to no access to the support they need ... leading to depression, social isolation, farm accidents, suicide, preventable early deaths and other devastating outcomes.

Why this campaign matters:

Hidden struggles

Many of our rural friends, colleagues or family are fighting often invisible battles with alcohol harm or addiction behind closed doors. They're suffering every day – as are their loved ones – and chances are, you wouldn't even know.
